Prescription transfers and refill requests are related, but they solve different pharmacy needs. Knowing which one you need can make the process easier.

A refill request

A refill request is used when a prescription is already with your current pharmacy and you want another fill under that prescription. Whether the refill can be processed depends on the prescription and any remaining authorization.

A prescription transfer

A transfer request is used when you want an eligible prescription moved from one pharmacy to another. Transfer eligibility depends on the medication, prescription status, applicable law, and whether a new prescription is required.

When the prescriber may need to be involved

If a prescription has no remaining refills, cannot be transferred, has expired, or otherwise requires new authorization, the pharmacy may need a new prescription from the prescriber.

Which option should you choose?

If your prescription is already at Lone Star Chemist and you are seeking another fill, start with the Refill Request process. If the prescription is currently at another pharmacy and you want to move it, start with the Transfer Prescription process.

Questions are welcome

If you are not sure which request applies, contact the pharmacy before submitting sensitive health information through a general contact form.

This article is general educational information and is not medical advice. Refill and transfer eligibility varies by prescription, medication, applicable law, and pharmacy requirements.
