Compounded IV preparations are patient-specific sterile prescriptions prepared by the pharmacy for administration by the treating provider or another qualified clinical setting. Lone Star Chemist does not administer IV therapy and does not offer infusion appointments.

The pharmacy prepares; the treating provider administers

Lone Star Chemist's role is pharmacy preparation and dispensing of the prescribed compounded IV preparation when the prescription is appropriate, legally eligible, and within the pharmacy's capabilities.

Administration takes place through the treating provider or another qualified clinical setting. Patients should follow the instructions given by the healthcare professional responsible for administration.

A compounded IV begins with a prescription

The treating clinician determines the treatment plan, ingredients, dose, route, and administration instructions. Lone Star Chemist does not diagnose the patient, prescribe IV therapy, or determine whether a patient should receive an infusion.

The pharmacist reviews the prescription and may contact the prescriber when clarification is needed before preparation.

Not every requested preparation can be compounded

The pharmacy must consider formulation feasibility, ingredient availability, compatibility, prescription requirements, legal eligibility, and pharmacy capabilities before accepting a compounded IV prescription.

If a requested preparation cannot be made as written, the pharmacist may need to discuss the prescription with the treating provider.

Storage and handling instructions are preparation-specific

Compounded sterile preparations may have specific storage, handling, transport, or use instructions. Patients and clinical offices should follow the label and pharmacy guidance for the exact preparation dispensed.

Instructions for one product should not be assumed to apply to another compounded preparation.

No infusion appointments are offered at Lone Star Chemist

Lone Star Chemist does not operate an infusion clinic, does not administer IV therapy, and does not schedule IV infusion appointments. The pharmacy prepares eligible prescriptions for administration by the treating provider or another qualified clinical setting.
